THE DEATH OF VIDEO

Site specific installation

In October 2008, JVC, The last
electronics company still producing
VCR's, ceased production of it's
standalone video cassette players.
When existing inventories run out,
global sales will come to a halt
rendering the format obsolete and
marking the end of an era.

'The Death of Video' deals with the
humble video machine's struggle for
survival against the likes of newer
technologies, such as the DVD player.
The installation sets a scenario in
which a VCR is sentenced to death,
travelling along a bespoke conveyor
belt and eventually falling from a
great height out of a window.

A private view of the installation
was held on 13/5/09. The piece was
documented and recorded back onto
VHS. Printed matter explaining the
project was also designed to
accompany the VHS Tape.
